In celebration of Eric Carle’s birthday on June 25, Darla (The Preschool Toolbox) and Shara (Mommy Perks) have joined up to create something fun: a make-your-own Father’s Day Book with a Very Hungry Caterpillar theme. Their story is called The Very Hungry Dad.

You can print the book out here: The Very Hungry Dad (PDF) Here!

After printing, your children or students can fill in the pages using Wikki Stix to illustrate the story-line. Images can be hand drawn, too, of course. Simply use crayons, markers, pens or pencils. The Wikki Stix add a colorful punch, however, along with fine motor skill practice.

Darla bound her book using Wikki Stix (tied in bows). You can also hold your book together using string or staples.

On the final page, Darla had her daycare kids create images based on what they thought their own dads would want to eat. Their list included: a hot dog, an ice cream cone, a pineapple, french fries, an apple, a pumpkin, some cotton candy and a brat sausage (as seen in the image above).

Happy Birthday Eric Carle! Happy Father’s Day, dads!
